In the Spirit of Giving Recipient | JLS Photography

Last week I wrote that I would like to give a session to a family who could really use something positive this holiday season.  I received a few responses and although I wish I could do them all, this one stood out over the rest.

I often think about how lucky my family is to have super happy and healthy boys.  I know that isn’t always the case for everyone.

I received submissions twice for this family and here is part of what I received:

“It is with the heaviest heart that I am emailing you this today.  At a time of year filled with giving, friends, family, joy and celebration, my family is going through the unimaginable.

Young 6 year old Kade is losing his battle to an extremely aggressive cancer, Rhabdomysarcoma.  He fought it hard last year, and after a very grim diagnosis, he was declared cancer free last May.   A few weeks ago to the devastation of everyone, we were told his cancer has come back with a vengeance and doctors have exhausted all possible treatment.”

This young man will now live out his days at Canuck Place with his parents by his side.  They have put their entire lives on hold to spend every minute with their precious little boy.  When they were asked if they would appreciate doing a photo session, they were thrilled.  So we are waiting on a ‘good day’ for Kade to do something last minute and hope to have him in good spirits and feeling ok that day.  I can’t imagine having to say goodbye to your child, it is the unimaginable – something I hope that somehow this family will not have to do.

Thank you again to all those who submitted a letter and I wish all the families spend this holiday season together; appreciating one another.
