It is sessions like this one that bring a lot of meaning to what I do!!
A few months back my husband had surgery and was down and out for a while. I guess the stars aligned for me as at the same time a good friend Kara had recently quit her job to focus on herself and her health. I guess we were meant to meet up as Kara was a life saver and came almost every day to spend time with my kids while I worked, cleaned the house, grocery shopped without them… it was amazing! At first I really felt guilty that she was coming so much as I wasn’t really able to compensate for the amount of time she spent – but it soon became clear that this was something that was benefiting both of us. My kids just love her and really had fun playing and she in turn loved them back. I knew this wasn’t going to last forever as Kara did find a new job which has taken her across the country… but we are really excited to know she’s only gone for a year!! Can’t wait for her to come back!
So… here is where my work comes in.
I hear so often… “ohhh my kids are grown, too bad we can’t go do cute pictures like what I see on your website. They just didn’t do stuff like this when my kids were little.” Well this is where I step in to say that it doesn’t matter what age your kids are, they are always your kids and you will always be their first love! No matter the age you need to capture family together.
I am so grateful that I am able to provide this gift to those who give so much to me and my family. Before Kara left I insisted that we do a few portraits of her family. She told me right away that there’s no way her brother will come. When ever he has a photo taken he refuses to even look at it as he hates pictures that much. HA… well of course I wouldn’t take that and insisted he had no choice. What I loved was that once we got started and he started to feel comfortable around me – the laughter started and everyone was simply having fun (dare I say he even liked it)… this was no longer a photo shoot, but a great night with loved ones… I was just along for the ride to capture it.
This is what is important – this is what all families need to do. Come out with me for an evening and just have fun! When was the last time you went skipping rocks with your mom?
Love you Kara and can’t wait to till we visit again!
